There is a version of this that nobody has a word for.
He is ill. It is serious, and everybody involved knows roughly what that means, and nobody says it. You are not a widow. You are not a wife in any ordinary sense either. You are somebody who is grieving a person who is in the next room, and who will be very cross if the tea is wrong.
